Fire in Montuïri in a Consell de Mallorca shed occupied since the beginning of the year
According to the first indications, everything points to the fire having originated inside the small house fortuitously
MontuïriA serious scare this morning in Montuïri. One of the two publicly owned houses that the Consell de Mallorca has next to the Palma-Manacor road (Ma-15) and which, as has become known today, had been occupied since the beginning of the year, suffered a spectacular fire that forced the mobilization of a large number of emergency personnel.
The alert was given when smoke coming from the building, which runs parallel to the Manacor road (Ma-15), just before a well-known restaurant and the town's petrol station, was detected. Firefighters from Mallorca, Civil Guard patrols, the Local Police of Montuïri, Civil Protection volunteers from the municipality, and ambulances from the health emergency service immediately rushed to the scene.
According to initial indications, everything points to the fire having originated inside the shed accidentally. Apparently, the people who were in the building lit a fire in a fireplace to burn various items such as clothing and other objects. The fire quickly and dangerously got out of control. No significant personal injuries were reported.
As mentioned, this building, which has significant ethnographic value and was part of a heritage rehabilitation plan by the Road and Heritage departments of the Council, had been occupied since the beginning of this year.
The exteriors of these sheds and wells adjacent to the Ma-15 had been the subject of cleaning and adaptation a few years ago by the island institution, at which point many residents and associations from Montuïri learned that the land was public and expressed their interest in being able to give a social and community use to the space once renovated.
For the moment, the emergency teams have controlled the fire and secured the building. It has not yet been revealed how the situation of the people who lived there is, but everything points to the house being sealed off due to the danger it poses.
