PalmaThe neighborhood platform Flipau amb Pere Garau has reported a succession of blackouts, supply cuts, and electrical incidents affecting various areas of the neighborhood since July 20. The entity has expressed its "profound indignation" at a situation that, it assures, has been repeated in recent weeks and affects both residents and businesses.

According to the platform, the service interruptions have caused numerous problems in the daily life of Palma's most populous neighborhood. The cuts particularly affect people with reduced mobility when elevators stop working, but also cause problems with air conditioning during a heatwave, refrigerators, charging mobile phones, and other electrical appliances.

The entity also warns that the consequences go beyond the interruption of the electricity supply. In some buildings, the cuts have also left residents without water, as communal pressure pumps stop working when the electricity fails.

The latest incident occurred in the early hours of this Friday, when the service was interrupted in some parts of the neighborhood and the lighting of some streets and several traffic lights stopped working.

For Flipau amb Pere Garau, the accumulation of incidents highlights the need for urgent action on the electrical infrastructure that serves the neighborhood. The platform demands that the necessary improvements be made to guarantee a supply that is "reliable, safe, and adapted" to the current needs of residents and the economic activity of the area.

In parallel, the entity considers an immediate intervention by public administrations necessary to guarantee the supply and to monitor the actions that are implemented to solve the network problems.

A guide to facing new supply interruptions

Given the possibility of supply interruptions recurring, the citizens' platform has disseminated a guide with recommendations for residents through social networks. Among the tips are to remain calm, contact the electricity distributor, disconnect sensitive electronic devices, avoid using elevators, keep the refrigerator closed, and conserve mobile phone battery for possible emergencies.

The platform has also encouraged affected residents and merchants to submit formal claims to their respective electricity retailers and to the competent bodies, with the aim that the incidents are recorded and a response and solution to the supply problems can be demanded.
