Forest fire controlled in Puig de Bonany after burning 0.7 hectares

PalmaThe Balearic Nature Institute (Ibanat) has declared the forest fire declared on the Puig de Bonany, near Petra and Sant Joan, under control at 3 p.m. The fire has burned approximately 0.75 hectares of agricultural vegetation and olive groves, according to the initial estimate.

2 aerial resources, 1 fire engine, 17 forest firefighters, and 4 environmental agents participated in the extinction efforts, in addition to the Mallorca Firefighters, with two crews from the Manacor station.

The fire broke out around 1:50 PM and was initially considered to be of severity 1 (due to its proximity to inhabited areas or roads). By the time it was controlled, it was already severity 0.

This Tuesday, the Balearic Islands are at maximum level of risk for forest fires, with a Fire Alert 4 from the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Environment, which recalls that it is forbidden to light fires in forest areas.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) activated the orange alert for heat on Monday in the interior and south of Mallorca, with a maximum temperature of 39°C, which will remain active until 8:00 PM.

The alert is yellow for the north, northeast, and the Tramuntana mountain range of Mallorca, for a maximum of 38°C, as well as in the Pitiuses Islands and Menorca with 36°C.
