VilafrancaVilafranca de Bonany, together with three other municipalities such as Vilafranca (els Ports), Vilafranca de Conflent and Vilafranca del Penedès, have officially resumed their intermunicipal collaboration ties. This has taken place in the year that coincides with the twentieth anniversary of a first meeting promoted in 2006: "The four Catalan-speaking Vilafranques get back in touch" with the firm will to "recover the bonds that unite them and explore new forms of cooperation".
This reunion stems from the shared interest in highlighting the history, heritage, and common language that brings these four territories together. As a first concrete measure of this new stage, a shared web space has been created, integrated directly into the tourism sections of each of the four town councils. This collaborative digital tool has the main objective of "jointly promoting their landscapes, heritage, and cultural traditions, inviting citizens and visitors to discover everything that connects these towns beyond current administrative borders".
The Vilafranca de Bonany City Council points out that the creation of this digital platform is only the first step of a much broader project. The four municipalities have expressed their willingness to "maintain stable communication, identify areas of shared interest, and study possible joint actions in fields such as tourism promotion, culture, heritage, or the exchange of municipal experiences".
Furthermore, this cooperation network is part of a trajectory of continental-scale twinning, given that it "also has a precedent in the Meetings of the Vilafranques of Europe, which have brought different European municipalities that share this toponym into contact over the years".
With this precedent as a reference, Vilafranca de Bonany reaffirms its commitment to continue developing initiatives for exchange, economic revitalization, and cultural cooperation among all the municipalities that share this common identity.
