PalmA fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon at a youth center in Palma left fourteen people with minor injuries, none of whom required hospitalization. The fire, according to SAMU 061 (the emergency medical service), started around 6:30 p.m. in a room at the Tramuntana first reception center for teenagers. The minors were evacuated to a designated meeting point, and local police, firefighters, and paramedics were mobilized. SAMU 061 paramedics assessed 14 people, all of whom sustained minor injuries and showed no signs of smoke inhalation. None required hospitalization. The first to arrive at the scene were officers from the Palma Local Police, who attempted to extinguish the fire using the center's fire extinguishers and their own, police sources indicated. The Palma Fire Department took over the firefighting efforts and will now investigate the cause of the fire. Other police sources have indicated that the fire may have started, though it is unknown whether intentionally or accidentally, on a sofa. Sources from the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS), the agency that manages the center, indicated that the fire originated in a tutoring room. They also stated that, although firefighters recommended against using some of the rooms due to the smell of smoke, none of the minors will need to be relocated to another center for the night.
