PalmMore than a hundred residents of Palma have joined this Saturday in a human chain to show their rejection of the construction of a car park and other municipal facilities on the plots adjacent to the old Gesa building. The protest, called by the association Parc Sí, took place in the same place where, according to residents' complaints, the City Council intends to build a "macrocar park" and new infrastructure.

The residents propose, instead, to convert these plots into a large public park and a "green lung" facing the sea, reinforcing the open spaces and recreational areas of the city's waterfront.

The Palma City Council bought the old Gesa building with the intention of rehabilitating it to house exhibition halls, a library, and municipal archives. The adjacent plots, however, were intended for other facilities and an underground parking lot, an initiative that has generated controversy among the neighborhood's residents.

To encourage citizen participation, the Governing Board approved last Wednesday that a representative from the Ses Veles residents' association, which is part of Parc Sí, will join the jury for the ideas competition for the Gesa renovation. According to the City Council, this measure aims to provide a vision closer to the neighborhood's reality and ensure that the transformations of the seafront align with the residents' needs.
