PalmThe management of IB3 has eliminated the Catalan option for films premiering on the public channel. This was denounced by Obra Cultural Balear this Sunday, after the television station announced the premiere ofThe Master Gardener only in Spanish.

In light of this, the organization has warned that this decision violates the Statute of Autonomy, the Law on Linguistic Normalization, the Audiovisual Law of the Balearic Islands, and the Law of the Public Entity of Radio and Television of the Balearic Islands, which in article 26.1 states that "the programming of the public entity of radio and television of the Balearic Islands must fulfill the functions of a public service and must contribute to the normalization of the language and culture of the Balearic Islands."

According to statements by the president of the OCB, Antoni Llabrés, IB3 was created with the aim of reinforcing the identity of the Balearic Islands and adequately meeting their information needs, among other social and cultural purposes. "IB3 cannot operate outside the law, and a regional television station makes no sense if it isn't rooted in the region," he stated.

"IB3's linguistic commitment is not an option; it's a mandate that must be fulfilled and that must be aimed at strengthening the linguistic normalization of the Catalan language," the entity's president continued. "It makes no sense for the citizens of the Balearic Islands to pay for a service that they can find in Spanish on hundreds of channels," the OCB believes. Therefore, they asked the public broadcaster's management to rectify this "immediately."

MÁS demands "the immediate return of Catalan" to all IB3 films.

MÁS por Mallorca has demanded "the immediate return of Catalan" to all IB3 films. In a press release, MÁS has joined the complaint of the Obra Cultural Balear (OCB) and has demanded "the immediate return of Catalan" to all films broadcast by IB3.

The coordinator of the group, Lluís Apesteguia, has pointed out that in the Balearic Islands there are 23 television channels that broadcast dubbed films, and that until now 22 did so in Spanish and one in Catalan. For Apesteguia, the decision to eliminate this guarantee on the only channel that always offered them in the native language "represents a further step in the crusade of hatred that the PP and Vox have against Catalan; against the linguistic rights of the people of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera; against everything that characterizes and".

Apesteguia added that "this situation already occurred in the past; specifically during the black four-year period from 2011 to 2015, when Marga Prohens was the spokesperson and defender of José Ramón Bauzá's policies, which he is now trying to resurrect despite publicly denying them."

MÁS has announced that they will request the appearance of the general director of IB3, Josep Codony, in Parliament, and that if he does not "rectify, apologize and return to the legal mandate of normalizing Catalan immediately" they will propose his resignation.
