Less Tourism, More Life reorganizes to maintain the protest against overtourism all year round
The platform, meeting at the GOB headquarters with more than fifty attendees, is committed to "exploring new formulas" to make the fight on the streets more effective.
PalmThe groups fighting against mass tourism in Mallorca, united under the platform Less Tourism, More Life, have begun a reorganization process with the aim of "maintaining the fight in the streets" throughout the year and strengthening the citizen response to the increase in overtourism. More than fifty people participated this Friday afternoon in an organizational assembly at the GOB headquarters in Palma, where the foundations for this new phase were laid. The groups believe that "the constant increase in overtourism" in Mallorca can only be confronted through grassroots organizing, especially given the measures adopted by the authorities, which they consider "inefficient."
The platform's spokesperson, Jaume Pujol, explains that the meeting began work on a "reformulation" of the organizational structure. "We want to take a qualitative leap to be able to maintain the struggle in the streets throughout the year, not just with a simple demonstration, because we've already seen that politicians ignore us and tourism continues to grow," he points out. According to Pujol, the aim is to "explore new formulas" to make the platform "more effective and efficient" organizationally. Although the final model is not yet finalized, one of the possibilities being considered is a more centralized structure. However, the spokesperson emphasizes that this potential centralization will not mean giving up the territorial and political diversity that characterizes the platform and which, in his opinion, has been key to "appealing to so many people" and consolidating a cross-cutting response against the effects of mass tourism on the island.
