PalmaLourdes Sampol Noguera, a painter and cultural activist strongly linked to Valldemossa, has died, as communicated by the Festival Chopin de Valldemossa Association. Sampol was part of the founding group of the Chopin Festival since 1981 and for decades was in charge of the annual exhibitions of contemporary artists linked to the event.
Born in Valldemossa in 1950, Sampol maintained a close connection with the cultural life of the municipality. Her artistic career also includes pictorial work and prints. Her figure also appears linked to the Mallorcan cultural movement of the last decades of Francoism.
Sampol's death occurs while a new edition of the Chopin Festival de Valldemossa is taking place, which this August once again brings together musicians and cultural activities at the Cartoixa. The Chopin Festivals Association has expressed its condolences and highlighted the memory of one of the driving forces behind the event.
"Since 1981 she was part of the founding group of the Chopin Festival and directed the annual exhibitions of contemporary artists. We will always remember her," they expressed.
