"Mallehaters go home": the German song that insults the Majorcans who protest against tourism

PalmaA controversial song, loaded with insults and disrespect, has been the response of some German singers to the protests against tourist overcrowding that have taken place in recent months in the Balearic Islands. The title, Mallehater go home, is already quite a declaration of intent. The song mixes two concepts: on one hand, the motto used by some participants in the demonstrations, the 'go home', in these cases addressed to tourists, and, on the other, 'Malle', the colloquial way in which part of German society refers to Mallorca.

In short, both the title and the chorus of the song mean that those who must leave the Balearic Islands are not the tourists, but rather those who hate or demonstrate against the Germans who consider Mallorca their home, to the point of claiming it as their own. It is worth remembering that 'Malle' is a term in German tourist slang referring to the island and is closely linked to the imagery of a tourism model based on excess, constant partying, and the uncontrolled consumption of alcohol and drugs.

In the lyrics, during the song the artists of the group Honk! claim that they hate everyone who goes against German tourists "without exception" and that in Mallorca "there are only idiots". Even so, they also harshly criticize those tourists who side with the residents and support them, accusing them of being "traitors" and "radicals".

The artists have already recorded several videos with signs where, accompanied by a hand showing the middle finger, they once again reinforce their message: "Those who hate German tourists are the ones who must leave the Balearic Islands".
