Mallorca and Menorca on orange storm warning
The warnings will be activated at 10 a.m. this Thursday and will be orange in the Tramuntana mountains, the north, the interior and the east of Mallorca.
PalmThe State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) will activate an orange warning for storms and heavy rainfall in Mallorca and Menorca this Thursday, which could result in up to 40 liters per square meter in one hour in some areas.
According to information from Aemet, the warnings will be activated at 10:00 a.m. in all cases and will be orange in the Tramuntana mountains, the north, inland and east of Mallorca, as well as Menorca, and yellow in the south of Mallorca, where records of up to 20 liters are expected.
In Menorca and the north of Mallorca and the Tramuntana mountains, the warnings will be in effect until 11:59 p.m., while in the rest of the country they are expected to be deactivated at 5:59 p.m.
Given this scenario, the General Directorate of Emergencies has activated Severity Index (GI) 1 of the Meteorological Plan for Mallorca and Menorca, while GI0 remains in effect due to high temperatures.
What will the weather be like for the rest of the week?
Cloudy periods with a chance of scattered showers are expected to persist on Friday. These showers may be locally heavy during the early morning and could continue into the afternoon in Mallorca.
Temperatures will experience little change during the early morning and will decrease, locally noticeably, during the day. The minimum temperature will be reached later.
Over the weekend, the sky will have cleared and daytime temperatures will increase. Winds will generally be light, from the south and southwest, with coastal breezes.
Widespread delays at the airport.
This Wednesday, Palma Airport is experiencing widespread delays due to the bad weather and rain that have fallen throughout the day in Mallorca.
According to information from Aena, Son Sant Joan has accumulated, after 4:30 p.m., up to 64 delayed flights and two cancellations.
Of the delays, 43 are on flights departing from Palma and the remaining 21 are on flights to Palma. The cancellations are a takeoff and a landing, both connecting to Luxembourg.
Among the flights affected by the weather are both national connections, with a particular predominance of Madrid and Barcelona, as well as international connections, many of which are from northern European countries such as Germany, the Netherlands and Great Britain.
