PalmThe National Police have arrested a man for allegedly setting fire to a wooded area in Palma near several homes and facilities. It was around 2:30 a.m. last Saturday when a fire broke out in Teulera Park, located a few meters from a residential area.

According to the Balearic Islands Police Headquarters, several patrol cars and fire crews responded to the scene and managed to quickly extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading to facilities, public roads, and homes.

Moments before, a witness saw a man get out of a vehicle and leave it parked with the engine running. He then approached the area where the fire started minutes later, leaving a strong smell of gasoline. The police took over the investigation, inspected the area, and warned of the real risk of the fire spreading and the consequences it would have had for nearby homes and facilities.

Officers were already investigating several previous fires in the area, all of which occurred in the early morning hours and which they suspected might have been arson. The most recent occurred on July 9. Investigators were able to identify and arrest the suspect, who had been identified by the witness.
