Manacor demands 9 million euros from the Government for the new health centre: "It is an insult to human intelligence"

The mayor says that "Manacor needs this new health center and now it is time to guarantee the resources so that the works can begin in 2027"

ManacorThe plenary session of the Manacor City Council has unanimously approved requesting the Government that the 2027 regional budget incorporate "a specific and sufficient item, of a minimum of 9,031,095 euros, to guarantee the execution of the new health center and SUAP and ensure that the works can begin during 2027". The Mayor of Manacor, Miquel Oliver, the delegate for Urban Planning, Núria Hinojosa, and the delegate for Health and Consumer Affairs, Paula Asegurado, stated this Tuesday from the municipal plot located next to the Molí d'en Beió, that the regional administration should not cast the municipality aside "as it has done throughout the entire legislature. We have received zero euros in investments from the sustainable tourism tax, when other neighboring municipalities like Sant Llorenç have received some; what Marga Prohens is doing with Manacor is an insult to human intelligence," said Oliver.

Waiting since 2022

"Manacor needs this new health center and now it is time to guarantee the resources so that the works can begin in 2027. The City Council has already done its part with the transfer of the plot," added Oliver, who claimed that "once the obstacles that had prevented progress until now have been resolved, there are no longer any excuses to launch the second health center in Manacor: we have the project, we have a budget item, and we have a more than justified healthcare need." In this sense, Núria Hinojosa highlighted that "the project is advanced and the plot has been at the disposal of the Government since 2022; now we ask that the money be reserved and that in 2027 we can see the works begin."

It should be remembered that the area of the Molí d'en Beió, where the land where the health center is planned to be built is located, next to the Escola de Mallorquí and where there is currently a dog park, was recently cataloged by the Government's Water Resources as a Preferred Flow Zone, which initially caused the project to be set back and the Government itself demanded that the Manacor City Council try to find a new location. Finally, and after the external technical study contracted by the City Council and presented just a few weeks ago, where it was made clear that the space would not be affected in the event of a flash flood, the Government has acknowledged the error and plans to change this particular classification during the first quarter of 2027.

It is expected that once the works begin (if the Government finally includes the item planned since 2025 again), the construction would last approximately a year and a half, since the final project will not vary from the one that already exists. Currently, the only health center in operation in Manacor, located in the Torre neighborhood, has to attend to up to 33,000 health cards.

The new health facility provides for an area of 4,501 square meters, 45 consultation rooms, and the capacity to attend to more than 17,000 people. There will be general medicine and nursing consultations, pediatrics, emergency services, obstetrics, physiotherapy, and oral health, in addition to specific spaces for treatments, minor surgery, extractions, and observation linked to the Primary Care Emergency Service (SUAP).

"Manacor, as the capital of the Llevant region and a territorial reference municipality, needs to have quality public services and proximity healthcare appropriate to its current reality," stated Asegurado. "The population growth of recent years makes it especially necessary to strengthen primary care and to have a second health center that allows for decongesting the current health center and improving the system's response capacity to a growing population in Manacor and its area of influence."
