ManacorManacor opens a new fire station. After three years of work to demolish the old buildings from 1987 and erect the new structures, this Friday an institutional representative of the Mallorcan Council, headed by the president, Llorenç Galmés, presented the new, more modern facilities, designed with environmentally friendly materials, and featuring adequate spaces for the work.

For the comprehensive renovation of the station, all the obsolete buildings in the complex had to be demolished, increasing its surface area and relocating its facilities. This project thus becomes the benchmark for future fire stations in Mallorca, as it optimizes various variables such as the construction system, operational capacity, energy aspects, and equipment. The budget for the comprehensive renovation was almost 3.7 million euros.

Temporarily, and while the fire station was being renovated, the Manacor fire department moved to a rented warehouse in the Manacor industrial estate, very close to the current one, where all personnel, vehicles, and equipment were housed. It's worth remembering that the Manacor Fire Department serves the municipality and a large part of the Llevant and Pla de Mallorca regions.

The new building has a total of 1,530.84 m² (tripling the useful surface area of the facilities), spread over two floors, in addition to a 104 m² training tower. The comprehensive renovation of the fire station has redesigned vehicle entry and exit, making it as quick as possible in the event of an emergency.

More capacity

The project will increase the station's maximum staffing capacity to eight firefighters per day, although the current staffing of six per day will be maintained. The new spaces will have capacity for 50 officers (with lockers, cabinets for personal protective equipment, etc.), who will work in shifts.

The new fire station will also have a pioneering training tower, which will meet the daily training and practice needs of personnel, with different scenarios and capacities. Furthermore, the project includes a decontamination area, intended for the protection of personnel when working with contaminated or hazardous materials, or if a pandemic situation arises. Decontamination circuits and processes have also been optimized for vehicles, equipment, and machinery.

This station model offers improvements in the layout of spaces, which are now more versatile, taking into account modularity in some areas, such as the dining room, the lounge, the offices, and the training room. All of this will allow for greater adaptability to different situations (increasing the number of women admitted to the service, pandemic situations, etc.). The facilities will have more storage space in the vehicle garage area, and the gym area, with a terrace, will be expanded.
