Manacor's new tax ordinance will require double property tax at the Nadal Academy.
The increase will be applied from January 1, 2026.
ManacorThe academy owned by former international tennis player Rafael Nadal in Manacor will be the main target of the increase in the Property Tax (IBI) approved by the Manacor City Council on Monday, which increases the value payable on properties for private sports use from 0.628% to 1.16%.
The extraordinary plenary session in September approved the modification of the Fiscal Ordinance regulating the IBI, twenty years after the last price revision. According to the City Council, the measure aims to "increase public resources in a fair and balanced manner, without impacting residential housing or local commerce or industry established in the municipality."
The situation of the Nadal Parera family's sports complex will be different, while "90% of the IBI bills issued by Manacor City Council will not increase under any circumstances," says the mayor, Miquel Oliver.
This amendment particularly affects Special Property (BICES) properties, such as solar parks on rural land, where the tax rate increases from 0.716% to 1.3%, within the limits set by the Local Tax Law.
Regarding differentiated cadastral uses, an increase from 0.628% to 1.16% is established in three specific cases: properties used for leisure and hospitality, properties for sports use, and undeveloped land. This increase will only affect the Tennis Academy within the municipality, since the increase "will only apply to properties that exceed a certain cadastral value, so the majority of properties classified as such will not be affected." Both residential homes and commercial and industrial properties are excluded from this amendment, with the aim of protecting local families, businesses, and companies.
1.5 million annual increase
With the new ordinance scheduled to come into effect on January 1, 2026, the City Council estimates an increase in revenue of €1.53 million annually. These resources, according to the governing team, "will serve to strengthen public services, boost investments, and improve the attention to the needs of the municipality," which now has more than 50,000 inhabitants.
The Chamber maintains that the reform fully complies with current legislation and responds to the principle of "whoever has more, must contribute more," without placing the burden on the citizens. "The citizens of Manacor deserve public services that are up to the challenges we face as a municipality. This modification allows us to obtain more resources without placing the burden on families," the governing team maintains.
Following provisional approval by the plenary session, the modification will be subject to public information for 30 days, through publication in the BOIB (Boilerplate of the Spanish Official Gazette) and on the municipal notice board. If there are no objections, the agreement will be definitively approved and will apply from 2026.
