PalmPalma Airport will temporarily suspend operations this Saturday due to a military display scheduled to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Son Sant Joan Air Base. Air traffic, Aena reported, will be halted between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. As this disruption was anticipated, no flights are scheduled during this time, so no changes to the schedule have been necessary. The military display, organized by the Spanish Air Force and Space Force, will celebrate 75 years since Son Sant Joan was officially classified as an air base. The process dates back to 1936, when the first airfield was established on the island of Mallorca. Three years later, with the creation of the Spanish Air Force, the Balearic Air Force Fighter Group was deployed, becoming the second unit with jet fighters in Spain. In 1950, the Official Bulletin of the Ministry of the Air formalized the name of the Son Sant Joan air base.
