More than 2,000 pigeons will be used as shooting targets in Felanitx

FelanitxMore than 2,000 domestic pigeons will be used as shooting targets this Sunday at Son Ximena, in Felanitx. Progreso en Verde has publicly denounced the activity and has demanded information from the administrations regarding the planned controls and protocols.

The president of the entity, Guillermo Amengual, has questioned the use of animals in this activity. "We are not talking about an activity necessary for food. We are talking about releasing animals to shoot them," he stated.

The organization demands to know how many animals end up injured or dead, what happens to the specimens that survive, and what measures are in place to prevent the pigeons from escaping. It also asks the Council of Mallorca and the Felanitx City Council to make public the documentation related to the activity and to verify compliance with the regulations.

Progreso en Verde also questions the compatibility of the shoot with the control measures for pigeon and wood pigeon populations applied by the Council due to the damage these birds cause.

The entity has announced that it will study possible administrative and legal avenues if it detects any non-compliance. "A pigeon is not a target. It is not a trophy. It is not an object. It is an animal," concluded Amengual.
