Nearly 200 horses star in the Gràcia de Maó festivities
The mayor, Héctor Pons, presided over the event as a rider.
PalmA total of 183 horses are taking part in the Gràcia festival parade in Maó, which began this Sunday afternoon and is led by the city's mayor, the Socialist party member Héctor Pons.
The leading donkey, Lito Vinent, set out with his donkey from the Town Hall to begin collecting all the caisses (riders) taking part in this first day of festivities, which will culminate in a commotion in the Plaça de la Constitución that will last until midnight.
Meanwhile, the giants Tomeu and Guida took to the streets, followed in procession by invited giants from other towns, including those from Masquefa (Barcelona).
This Monday, the day of Our Lady of Grace, the same commotion will be repeated starting at 1:00 p.m., culminating in the throwing of wineskins from the town hall building and the traditional samba, performed as a musical medley by the Maó Music Band.
