PalmFrom January to July 2025, 3,482 migrants arrived in the Balearic Islands on 182 boats from Algeria, representing a 124% increase compared to the first seven months of last year.

In the same period in 2024, 102 boat arrivals were recorded with 1,553 migrants setting sail from North Africa, mainly Algerians and sub-Saharans. According to data collected in the Ministry of the Interior's Annual National Security Report, which does not separately account for boats from the Balearic Islands in its fortnightly reports, 5,882 migrants arrived in the archipelago by sea last year.

If the current trend continues, calculated based on information provided by the Spanish government delegation with each detected arrival of small boats, by the end of the year the total number of irregular immigrants arriving by sea in the Balearic Islands will approach 13,200. The President of the Spanish Government, Marga Prohens, asked for "help" from the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, at the meeting they held in Palma last Tuesday and demanded effective measures to prevent a "humanitarian tragedy" like the one in the Canary Islands from happening again in the Mediterranean archipelago.
