PalmThe Palma City Council has approved a motion from the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) to commission a technical feasibility study for burying the ring road. The initiative passed with the support of all municipal groups except Vox, which voted against it, and echoes a proposal already approved a few weeks ago by the Consell de Mallorca (Island Council of Mallorca).

The motion proposes burying the railway line as an opportunity to create a large green corridor that would connect neighborhoods currently separated by the road and generate new services and amenities. Socialist councilor Francesc Dalmau argued that the proposal should serve as the starting point for a shared project between institutions, "regardless of political parties," with the goal of improving urban cohesion. For the People's Party (PP), the Councilor for Mobility, Toni Deudero, emphasized the need to strengthen the road agreement to include funding for the undergrounding project, an amendment that was incorporated into the motion through a compromise. However, he criticized the Socialists for not having implemented the project during previous terms in office. The approved agreement now calls for a study analyzing the technical, urban planning, environmental, and economic aspects of the project, with the first phase focused on connecting the neighborhoods of Nou Llevant, La Soledad, Son Malferit, Son Gotleu, and Rafal Vell.
