IbizaSilence at the disco. The clubs turned off their lights last weekend and, with that, the tourist season can be considered over in Ibiza. The big news of this year's closings has not been any new attendance record, nor any memorable DJ session, not even David Guetta's sixth declaration as the best DJ in the world. No: the news has been that the model and presenter Cristina Pedroche has become a DJ. Taking advantage of the fact that her husband, the superchef Dabiz Muñoz, has opened a restaurant in Ibiza, the super-presenter made her debut as a DJ at the closing of the new StreetXO at Platja d'en Bossa. Because, yes: in Ibiza, restaurants also have closings. In Ibiza, soon the garbage truck will have a closing when the workday ends. Pedroche has become a DJ and has been showered with hate by the bucketload. On social media, they have said everything to her, and very little of it polite. And the presenter was surprised. I don't know why; Kiko Rivera also gets tons of hate in his dazzling career as a singer and DJ. Surely Paris Hilton and Pocholo Jiménez-Bordiú were also objects of mockery when they got behind the decks.
But it is one thing to criticize Kiko Rivera, who has the same glamour as a second-hand tissue, and quite another to pick on Pedroche and Dabiz Muñoz. The couple has more powerful friends than Isabel Pantoja's son. So the celebrity couple was already having fun last Wednesday on El Hormiguero, the Antena 3 program that Pablo Motos runs with an iron fist. And the first thing they addressed was the model's debut on the decks and the criticism she has received, much of which supposedly came from people in the Ibiza nightlife scene. Dabiz Muñoz even read one of the messages: an unpleasant string of insults against the new DJ; “Where are they handing out DJ licenses in Ibiza?”, Muñoz asked, and reflected on whether he should consider it intrusion every time someone tried to start cooking. DJ Sebastián Gamboa also appeared in the audience as a show of support, Pedroche's teacher on the decks during the two months in which the celebrity has been preparing.
Masterclass
In short, a masterclass on how to monetize social media hate: fifteen minutes of free promotion for StreetXO, for Ibiza, and for the couple's own various activities. It was almost as if they had taken the title of best DJ away from Guetta and given it to the presenter; the audience of El Hormiguero would surely have found it fair. Pedroche and Muñoz have the naturalness of those who know they are celebrities in their own right; there are not that many in Spain. In addition to talking about Ibiza, Pedroche chatted about the abundant milk her breasts generate, while Muñoz assessed the taste qualities of such a delicate libation, comparing them with those of cow's milk. The super-chef also explained that when he was little he tried eating dog poop. If you don't believe me, review the program. A marvel. I don't know why I don't watch TV more often.
That Pedroche has chosen Ibiza to become a DJ is completely normal. Totally natural, like mother's milk. In Ibiza, there is a DJ in every house. Just as the hippies died off, we replaced them with DJs and nightclub bouncers; before you had a cousin who was a priest, and now you have two who are DJs. In 2025, the magazine Clubbing TV counted 980 DJs in Ibiza. If the island has 570 square kilometers, that comes out to 1.7 DJs per kilometer. But this is a very moderate estimate; it only concerns professional DJs. It is missing all those who play sporadically, all the amateurs, and all those who pose as DJs and whose only turntable they have ever seen in their lives is the one in the shower.
So the situation was inevitable. If Pedroche was already a model, presenter, and wife of the Best-Chef-In-The-World, the next step was to mutate into a DJ. It is obvious. The logical digievolution. The ineffable pop duo Ojete Calor popularized the concept of 'mocatriz' (“Model, singer and actress: Mooocatriz!”). They need to add the DJ category immediately.
Cristina Pedroche claimed that the famous DJs, the important ones, those who receive awards from DJ Mag magazine, have not been bothered by her landing in the music world. “The day I saw David Guetta, my life changed,” the presenter proclaimed. Yes, yes, sure it did. But if I were a famous DJ, I would start worrying, one of those who charge tens of thousands of euros to spin for a little while at the Ibizan megaclubs. It is one thing for Kiko Rivera to be your competition, and another for the most perfect couple in Spain to do it—with all due respect to the royals. The presenter has confirmed that her career as a DJ will continue with a performance at StreetXO in Madrid: she is here to stay. Surely next summer she will treat us to a new session at StreetXO in Ibiza. Or at Ushuaïa, or at Hï, or a residency at UNVRS. It’s coming. David Guetta sees it coming too. He finishes his protein shake after a hard session in his private gym; a tiny drop of sweat still rolls down his forehead. He wonders only how much longer his reign can last.
