SFM again cuts special trains for the Sineu Fair: there will only be one
The works at Son Rullan force the limitation of traffic to a single lane and prevent the expansion of the special device for Monday's party
PalmaServeis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) will once again reduce the special train service this year due to the Much de Sineu, which takes place this Monday. The public company will only enable one extraordinary train at the end of the day, a measure that is being taken for the second consecutive year due to the works being carried out on the railway network of Mallorca.
The decision comes after SFM had already significantly reduced the special service for this festival last year. In 2024, 21 extraordinary services had been scheduled, while in 2025 the figure was reduced to three. This year, finally, there will only be one special train.
SFM explains that it has adapted the service at the request of the Sineu City Council, which had requested to reinforce the safety of attendees' return and promote the use of public transport. The only extraordinary service will depart from Sineu at 9 p.m.
The works force circulation on a single track
The reason for the limitation is the works on the elevated crossing of Greco street, in Palma, linked to the modernization of the Son Rullan workshops. According to SFM, this is a "strategic" intervention for the future of the railway network, as it must allow for the expansion of the fleet's maintenance capacity, improve its reliability, and prepare the system for increased frequencies and the arrival of new trains.
While the works are ongoing, however, trains must temporarily run on a single track between the Son Fuster and Marratxí industrial estate stations in both directions. SFM points out that this limitation affects the circulation of the entire network and "prevents the incorporation of more trains" during this phase of the works.
For this reason, the public company has only been able to add an extraordinary service to the usual ones. The objective is to facilitate attendees' return and reinforce safety at the end of the day.
Six departures from Sineu
The regular service will be maintained with a frequency of one train per hour in both directions to Palma and vice versa. The last departures from Sineu will be at 6:44 PM, 7:44 PM, 8:44 PM, 9 PM –the special service–, 9:44 PM, and 10:44 PM.
In addition, SFM assures that the services will be provided with higher capacity units to absorb the high demand expected during the return period.
The company recommends that attendees, whenever possible, stagger their return and use the first available trains. In this way, it aims to avoid passenger concentrations on the last services and to facilitate a "more comfortable and safer" return.
The Much de Sineu is one of the most attended celebrations in the festival calendar of Mallorca. In 2024, when the device of 21 special services was deployed, SFM registered 5,807 trips by people originating from or destined for the Sineu station during the festival day.
