SFM will change train schedules starting next Monday
The review aims to reduce delays and improve coordination between trains and buses to provide a more reliable and punctual service.
PalmMallorca Railway Services (SFM) will implement a review and update of train and metro timetables starting next Monday, November 17th, with the aim of adjusting them to current service conditions and improving punctuality, reliability, and overall quality of public rail transport. This measure, the result of a technical analysis by the Operations department with the participation of train drivers and operations inspectors, responds to the need to update timetables that were designed in a different context and, according to SFM, no longer reflect the operational reality of the network. The adjustments are based on real data collected over the last six months and have taken into account various factors, such as the bridge replacement works on Calle del Greco, near the Verge de Lluc station (Palma), increased train occupancy, changes in speed and timing, single-track sections, and stations experiencing growing passenger demand.
According to the public company, the new timetable will allow for a more realistic operating margin for the driving, maintenance, and planning teams, with the ultimate goal of strengthening reliability and user satisfaction. Furthermore, the measure will contribute to better coordination between trains, staff, and maintenance, making the system more efficient and sustainable. SFM has reported that the proposal has been shared with the representative labor unions, with which it maintains an open collaboration, and has expressed its gratitude for the commitment and professionalism of all staff.
Adaptation of TIB buses
At the same time, the Mallorca Transport Consortium (CTM) will also modify, starting Monday, the TIB shuttle bus schedules to adapt them to the new train timetables and thus optimize transfers between train and bus. The shuttle bus service connecting to the stations of Marratxí, Consell-Alaró, Inca, Constancia-Hospital de Inca, and Sineu will continue to be coordinated with train frequencies. Among the affected lines are the 341 Pòrtol–Son Llàtzer–FAN, which connects to the Marratxí station; the 331 Alaró–Oriente and the 342 Alaró–Estació–Consell, which connect to Consell-Alaró; and the 313 Selva-Inca, which goes to the Inca station. Line 316 Son Serra–Inca, linked to the Constancia-Hospital station in Inca; and lines 441 Ariany–Maria–Sineu and 442 San Juan, which connect to Sineu.
Continuous service improvement
The timetable adjustment is part of SFM's overall continuous improvement plan, which includes modernization of infrastructure, signaling and safety systems – with the progressive implementation of the European ERTMS system – as well as increased maintenance, modernization of the fiber optic network, and new passenger information systems. The new timetables and all information about train and bus services can be found on the portals. www.trensfm.com and www.tib.org.
