SFM workers warn: "Either they make a real proposal this week or we will resume the strikes."
The SFM works council considers it "unacceptable" that the increase in staff continues unaddressed
PalmNew plot twist in the conflict between the workers of Servei Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) and the management of the public company. Four days after signing the first part of the agreement to call off the protestsThe works council has warned of this: "We demand that, sometime this week, management urgently convene the works council to formally present a proposal, or we will have no other option but to reactivate the strikes."
"Without a real proposal, with concrete figures and an implementation timeline, it will not be possible to move forward with ending the strikes," they emphasized this Monday. The SFM works council considers it "unacceptable" that the staff increase, which was promised as part of the agreement, continues to be ignored. "The creation of a committee does not replace the obligation to provide it with the necessary resources," they warn.
Last week, some of the commitments that the works council considered "essential" to move forward with ending the strikes at SFM were signed. "This step was taken responsibly and with a clear desire to find a solution to the conflict," they stated. However, the other fundamental condition for a genuine end to the strikes remains unmet. According to the workers, SFM management publicly committed to presenting a concrete staffing proposal that would guarantee exponential growth in areas critical to safety and service quality: workshops, tracks and works, maintenance, technical areas, traffic control, call center and the intervention group. "Today, more than five days later, there is no proposal on the table, nor any aspect that is," they lament.
