Social housing in Petra: Only for those under 35 years old and who have been living in the town for 18 years

PetraThe municipality of Petra will have a new development of 19 public protection homes for rent. The works will begin at the beginning of 2027, have an execution period of 18 months and a budget of 3.5 million euros, excluding taxes.

As agreed by the Petra City Council, these homes will be intended for people under 35 years of age who can prove that they have resided continuously in the municipality of El Pla for at least 18 years.

The development is the first promoted by Ibavi in the town in more than twenty years. The president of the Balearic Government, Margalida Prohens; the Minister of Housing, Territory and Mobility, José Luis Mateo, and the mayor of Petra, Salvador Femenias, presented the project yesterday on the Camí del Cos, the place where the homes will be built.

The project will be built on a 1,569 square meter plot ceded by the Balearic Government and "is part of the regional shock plan to expand the public housing stock". The maximum construction surface area is 1,255 square meters, it will be distributed over the ground floor and first floor, and will have 941 square meters of exterior urbanization.

Regarding the typology of the dwellings, the building will consist of ten one-bedroom apartments, with surfaces between 55.92 and 56.67 square meters, and nine two-bedroom apartments, between 71.97 and 74.22 square meters. Likewise, two of the dwellings will be fully adapted for people with disabilities.

The mayor of Petra, Salvador Femenias, has celebrated that this public housing promotion is being carried out. Regarding the recipients of the future homes, he pointed out that "in the town there is a need for housing and we approved that they must be preferably for young people from Petra up to 35 years old and who have been registered here for at least 18 years".
