A Swiss woman living in Mallorca claims the inheritance of a 19th-century French millionaire.
The heritage would include castles, palaces, houses, rural estates, jewels and works of art.
PalmA Swiss woman living in Mallorca and a relative living in the Alpine country have initiated a process to claim part of an inheritance left by a 19th-century French millionaire named Esteban Descloux, who married a woman from Menorca some 200 years ago. According to Europa Press, both relatives contacted the Osuna Law Firm, a specialist in these types of cases, to claim their share of a large estate that allegedly includes castles, palaces, houses, rural properties, jewelry and other assets, as well as many works of art.
Lawyer Fernando Osuna has explained that the alleged descendants have sufficient documentation and family trees to prove they come from the same family. There are two versions regarding the origin of the man known as "Knight Descloux." On the one hand, he could be a businessman who made his fortune working in maritime transport in the early decades of the 19th century, while other hypotheses suggest he was a military man linked to the nobility.
The lawyer has pointed out that some of the heirs renounced the inheritance and that there were disputes and family conflicts. In addition to the Descloux fortune, there is another estate linked to this inheritance, which includes a castle in Monaco and numerous homes and lands. Some of the descendants died without leaving any children, so the collateral line remained open.
The procedure has just begun, and the first steps consist of identifying and locating the castles, palaces, homes, jewels, works of art, and the entire estate in general. This will also include searching for wills, determining who owns the assets, and obtaining the relevant documentation from the Property Registries and Notaries. At the same time, relatives linked to the inheritance will be contacted. In the 1960s, two Mallorcan families already claimed the millionaire's inheritance.
