In the list they speak of the territory, destroyed; the towns and neighborhoods, gentrified; the natural spaces, threatened; mobility, collapsed; housing, inaccessible; families, suffocated; houses, turned into a business; speculation, rampant; water, wasted, and infrastructure, saturated. "We defend the right to live in Mallorca and we stop this growth model that has been operating for too long without any measure on the territory and on the people. Mallorca, at the limit. It is time to stop," they have stated in the statement.

The GOB's reasons for attending the demonstration
  • 1. The territory, at its limitLet's stop the destruction of rural land and say enough to continued urbanization. We demand the revision of Territorial Plans, the declassification of urban and developable land, the definitive prohibition of building chalets on rural land, the recovery of green corridor proposals, and the revision of the Territorial Planning Guidelines (DOT) to guarantee landscape preservation and safeguard agricultural and forest land.
  • 2. Neighborhoods and towns, at their limitLet's stop the touristification of spaces. Tourism is expelling us.We demand a moratorium on tourist places and a prohibition on tourist rentals: applying the measure of 2 low-impact places for every new tourist place and prohibiting and increasing surveillance on illegal tourist rentals.
  • 3. Natural spaces, at their limitLet's stop the lack of protection and the loss of natural spaces. We demand a new catalog of Natural Spaces: declaring valuable landscapes excluded from the LEN as ANEI, which are currently only Common Rural Land.
  • 4. Mobility, at its limitLet's stop building more roads that don't solve the problem and only generate more traffic and more pollution. We demand the suspension of the execution of works planned in the current Road Plan and the drafting of an integral mobility plan.
  • 5. Housing, at its limitLet's stop houses from continuing to be an investment asset while people can't find a place to live.We demand intervention in the real estate market by freezing rent increases, declaring Mallorca a stressed area, and allocating an extraordinary annual budget for protected housing and rent assistance. We also demand to promote, here and in Europe, the prohibition of housing purchases by non-residents who end up in the international speculative market.
  • 6. Families, at their limitLet's stop the tourism model that impoverishes us. The cost of living continues to rise. Salaries remain low, insularity makes everything more expensive. We demand a change in the economic model that guarantees stable employment and decent wages, reduces dependence on mass tourism, and allows people to live in Mallorca.
  • 7. Homes, at their limitLet's stop thousands of empty houses from falling apart while residents need housing. We demand a housing rehabilitation plan in the towns and neighborhoods of Mallorca, with the aim of recovering for the people the 105,000 empty homes that exist according to the INE.
  • 8. Water, at its limitLet's stop the overexploitation of aquifers. The tourism model drastically increases water consumption: a tourist can consume up to six times more than a resident. We demand respect for the limits of this resource and no authorization for new urban developments or new exploitation.
  • 9. Infrastructure, at its limitLet's stop a model that collapses the airport, roads, and treatment plants, increases waste and CO2 emissions, demands enormous amounts of energy, and exacerbates the climate crisis. We demand a reduction in the pressure on Mallorca's infrastructure and planning that limits the increase in energy consumption.
  • 10. Waste, at its limitLet's stop the tourism model that generates more and more waste, more CO2 emissions, and exacerbates the climate crisis. We demand to stop the import of waste from Ibiza and close the obsolete incinerator ovens, as well as reduce incineration by increasing selective collection.
