PalmThe Balearic Islands ended 2025 with a 2.56% decrease in the birth rate compared to the previous year, according to data published this Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Specifically, a total of 8,835 births occurred in the archipelago last year, 774 of them in December alone. Of those born in the last month of the year, 399 were girls and 375 were boys. The majority of births were to mothers in the 30-34 age bracket (277), followed by those aged 35-39 (197) and 25-29 (143).
On the other hand, regarding deaths, the INE statistics published this Wednesday reveal that up to week 5 of 2026, 1,035 deaths were recorded in the Balearic Islands, 0.54% more than in the same week of the previous year. This week alone, 168 people died in the Islands.
