FormenteraThe Island Council of Formentera has opened the public consultation period prior to the drafting of the regulation that will govern the island's service for the collection, reception, classification, recovery, and management of construction and demolition waste (CDW) on the island. The initiative, approved by the Governing Board on October 16, aims to gather opinions and contributions from the public and the sectors involved before drafting the regulations.

The future regulation, the Council reports, will allow for the establishment of operating conditions for a temporary management facility for this waste in the Cap de Barbaria area, while the planned definitive plant is being built and brought into operation. This facility is intended to facilitate the reception, classification, and control of waste generated in Formentera, as well as its subsequent management through authorized facilities.

Waste recovery

With this initiative, the Council aims to improve the control and traceability of construction and demolition waste, promote its separation and recovery, and establish the obligations of both users and those responsible for the service.

It should be remembered that the Council Plenary approved unanimously, on July 2nd, the creation of this island public service, with the aim of responding to the current needs for the management of this waste in Formentera.

Participation deadline

The public consultation period has begun today, Thursday, October 22, and will remain open until Wednesday, November 11, 2026, inclusive. During these 15 business days, interested individuals and entities will be able to submit their opinions and contributions.

Proposals can be submitted via entry registration at the Citizen Attention Office (OAC) or electronically, through the Virtual Citizen Attention Office (OVAC).
