PalmaThe Son Carbó dairy farm, located in Campos and one of the farms affected by the closure of Agama, has submitted an offer to acquire 51% of Formatges Grimalt with the support of other partners, in an operation that aims to guarantee the continuity of the dairy sector in Mallorca.

Sources from the cheese company, one of the most relevant on the island, have confirmed the operation and have placed it in a context of uncertainty marked by the recent closure of Agama. "The objective is to maintain both production, the client portfolio, and jobs," they explained.

The same sources have highlighted the “sacrifice” involved in the decision of the hitherto main shareholder —granddaughter of the founder and third generation at the head of the company— to endorse the operation and prioritize the future of the sector over particular economic interests.

The operation, which is likely to go ahead, is pending the finalization of some details and the completion of the corresponding deadlines. Current partners have pre-emption rights.

According to what has transpired, the offer to acquire the majority of the shares would be led by Miquel Vanrell (owner of the Son Carbó dairy farm), with the support of other actors linked to the sector, in a maneuver that seeks to strengthen the local productive structure at a key moment for the future of the Mallorcan dairy industry.
