PalmThe daughter of the man who died in the house fire in Les Països (Ibiza) in August 2023 testified this Tuesday at the Palma Provincial Court. She had already warned that the accused, who was her brother's partner at the time, "was a dangerous woman." "Since she came into our lives, my brother attempted suicide and my father was murdered," she stated before the jury.

The witness, who testified separated from the accused by a screen, explained that at first she didn't see anything strange, but that over time her behavior made her suspicious. She recounted that the woman offered to care for her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer's, while her father was in the hospital, and that although she was told it wasn't necessary, "she absolutely refused to leave." She also recalled that the woman had a copy of the keys.

The daughter explained that her brother had attempted suicide days before the incident and that the woman, despite being warned, went downstairs "calmly" and spent more than half an hour smoking. "She always carried matches," she emphasized. She also indicated that at the hospital they were informed that the accused had impersonated a family member to demand money.

"The house looked as if a bomb had fallen on it."

The trial, which began on Monday, is investigating whether the accused started the fire while two elderly people were sleeping. The prosecution accuses her of murder and arson, and is seeking a life sentence with the possibility of parole. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, one of the victims, who was completely dependent on others, was unable to escape and died in the flames. It should be noted that on Monday, the prosecutor in charge of the case stated that the accused "knew perfectly well what she was doing at the time of the events" and that she intended to carry it out, despite suffering from schizoaffective disorder.
