PalmaThe Local Police of Palma will begin patrolling inside EMT buses to prevent uncivil conduct, reinforce coexistence, and deter minor offenses. This is one of the measures announced by the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, during the state of the city debate held this Monday in Cort, as reported by Europa Press. According to his explanation, the initiative is part of the municipal strategy to consolidate a coexistence model based on "respect" and the "proper use" of public space.

The patrols will be implemented under the figure of civic agents, who will directly report to the Local Police. These agents, as already happens in other municipalities, will assume functions exclusively related to information, awareness-raising, and monitoring compliance with the civic ordinance, always from a position of proximity and direct contact with citizens. When the situation requires it, they may request the intervention of the Local Police to exercise the corresponding authority functions.

Martínez has argued that these agents will be "a fundamental tool" to reinforce coexistence, prevent uncivil conduct, and facilitate residents and visitors enjoying public spaces "in a safe, orderly manner and with all guarantees."

In this regard, local police officers, both uniformed and plainclothes, will begin to serve on board EMT Palma buses. The deployment will initially be carried out on certain routes and time slots selected based on criteria such as passenger volume, attendance at different times of the day, connection with commercial and leisure areas, as well as the previous existence of incidents or complaints about uncivil behavior.
