Firefighters rescue four young people without water on Puig Tomir, among other evacuations this weekend
The Bombers of Mallorca intervened in Tomir, Cala Pi and Torrent de Pareis between Saturday and Sunday; four hikers had to be evacuated after running out of water
PalmaThe Mallorca Firefighters carried out three rescues of hikers and trekkers at different points on the island this weekend. Among the interventions, the rescue of four young people who ran out of water and strength while hiking a route through Puig Tomir, in the municipality of Escorca, stands out.
According to the fire department, the alert was received on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. The Mountain Rescue Group traveled to the scene and, with the support of the Milana helicopter, was able to locate and evacuate the four hikers.
That same Saturday, at 2:25 p.m., the Milana helicopter intervened again to rescue a young man who had fallen in the Cala Pi area, in Llucmajor.
The third operation took place on Sunday, at 12:25 p.m., when the Firefighters rescued another young man who had suffered an ankle injury while walking along Torrent de Pareis.
The Mallorca Firefighters have repeatedly recalled the importance of planning excursions, especially during the summer months, when high temperatures increase the risk of dehydration and physical exhaustion. Among the recommendations are to carry enough water, avoid the hottest hours, and adapt routes to the hikers' physical preparation.
