The foreign population of the Balearic Islands is growing three times faster than the Spanish population.
The Archipelago exceeds one million inhabitants
PalmThe foreign-born population of the Balearic Islands grew by 3.42% in July compared to the previous year, three times as much as the population born in Spain, which remained virtually unchanged and is growing at less than 1%. Specifically, the Balearic Islands reached 1.25 million inhabitants in the seventh month of the year, of which 891,890 were born in Spain and 359,196 were born abroad.
This is evident from the provisional data on population figures for July 1, 2025, published this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics. According to these data, the total population of the Balearic Islands experienced growth of 0.42% in the second quarter of the year compared to the first—the third highest growth in the country—reaching 1.25 million inhabitants. Compared to July 2024, the population of the archipelago increased by 1.01%.
Of the total number of residents in the Balearic Islands, 627,229 are women (50.13%) and 623,857 are men (49.87%). Of the more than 1.25 million inhabitants of the Balearic Islands, 268,212 have foreign nationality, a figure that has grown by 1.84% in one year, and 982,874 have Spanish nationality (+0.79%).
Likewise, the number of inhabitants of the Balearic Islands born somewhere in Spain (891,890) grew by 0.07% and those born abroad by 3.42% (359,196).
By islands, Mallorca has a population of 971,369 (+0.92%); Ibiza, 165,289 inhabitants (+1.8%); Menorca, with 102,880 inhabitants (+0.78%), and Formentera saw its population decline in the last year, down 0.35% to 11,548.
