PalmThe GOB (Balearic Ornithological Group) has filed a complaint against a restaurant with the Coastal Authority and the Felanitx Town Council for illegally occupying part of the Arenal Petit beach in Portocolom. According to a statement released by the environmental group, the establishment occupies the entire six-meter-wide right-of-way that, by law, must remain clear within the public maritime-terrestrial domain.

The presence of tables, chairs, wooden structures, and a concrete platform, as explained by the GOB (Balearic Ornithological Group), completely obstructs pedestrian access and connectivity along the coastline, thus violating the Coastal Law. Furthermore, this area is designated as an urban park, which prohibits commercial use and therefore renders the restaurant's activity incompatible with current planning regulations. For all these reasons, the environmentalists have requested that the Coastal Authority, in accordance with its inspection and enforcement powers, take action to restore legality. They have urged the Felanitx City Council to assume its responsibilities regarding compliance with both municipal regulations and coastal management. The GOB reiterated the need for rigorous application of the Coastal Law to prevent the "covert privatization" of the coastline in a context of "beach erosion, climate change, and intense tourist pressure."
