PalmaThe Government has approved this Friday to allocate 63.3 million euros to expand the fleet of Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca (SFM) with the purchase of two new trains of the 1100 series, five trailer cars, and various spare parts. The Executive spokesperson, Antoni Costa, explained that the objective is to improve the service given the growing number of users. Furthermore, the Executive anticipates that the trend will continue.

The number of passengers has gone from seven million in 2022, the year in which this type of transport became free for residents, to 15 million in 2025. As Costa explained, this investment is not linked to the projects in progress to expand the train and metro lines, which will have their own acquisition of new units according to the needs of each project. Otherwise, the Executive has also declared of special strategic interest the project for the new TIB network bus station in Campos on a plot of approximately 4,400 square meters on the ronda de la Rambla.
