The housing encampment resists the day of rain and makes a call to contribute material
The campers are preparing a workshop to make banners for the Palestine demonstration and are asking for raincoats, tarps, ropes and other materials to protect the tents
PalmaThe Housing Camp of Mallorca, installed in the Plaça d'Espanya in Palma, faces a new day of mobilization this Thursday marked by the forecast of rain. The participants have maintained the camp and have called on the public to join them and contribute material that allows them to protect themselves from the water during the next few hours.
Specifically, sources from the camp have requested raincoats, pallets, tarpaulins, ropes, and weights, materials they consider necessary to reinforce the tents and prevent the rain from affecting the protest space. The call comes after the camp has been incorporating new tents since the first night and as the participants maintain the intention to continue occupying the Plaça d'Espanya to demand measures regarding the housing situation.
The day also includes various activities. If the weather permits, at 5 p.m. a banner-making workshop is planned in preparation for the demonstration in support of Palestine called for next October 9th.
Subsequently, it is planned that the housing advice workshop will be held, one of the central activities of this Thursday's encampment. The initiative is aimed especially at people whose rental contract is about to expire and who want to know how they can request the extension provided for in the housing decrees. The goal is to help tenants draft and send burofaxes to landlords to formally record their request before the vote on the decrees in the Congress of Deputies, scheduled for this Friday.
Members of the encampment argue that submitting the request within the deadline can allow tenants to strengthen their position and claim the continuity of the contract while protection measures are in force. The promoters of the initiative consider that the decrees open a "legal loophole" that tenants can take advantage of, given that the measures come into force upon their publication in the BOE. This Thursday's day, therefore, combines protest activity with direct advice to people affected by the housing situation, while participants try to guarantee the continuity of the encampment in the face of weather conditions that may complicate its development.
