PalmaMallorca will become these days an international meeting point for spinning top lovers. The Cloister of Sant Domingo in Pollença hosts the 8th Mallorcan Spinning Top Meeting on October 16th and 17th, a consolidated festival that will bring together around forty professional spinners, artisans, and enthusiasts from different countries.

Among the participants there will be representatives from Japan, Portugal, Italy, France, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil, in addition to professionals from other parts of the peninsula and Mallorca. The meeting thus puts the island back on the international map of this discipline, which combines skill, technique, creativity, and spectacle.

The festival already experienced one of its great milestones two years ago, when it hosted the World Acrobatic Spinning Top Championship. This eighth edition will once again offer activities for all audiences, with workshops, demonstrations, shows, and challenges to test the participants' skills.

Circus, acrobatics, and shows with spinning tops

The programming began on Thursday, October 15th, with various workshops aimed at the schools of Pollença. On Friday the 16th, starting at 4:30 PM, the cloister will open its doors to the public so that young and old can learn how to spin tops and try increasingly complicated movements, with prizes for the best stunts.

Saturday the 17th will be the main day. Activities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with open workshops and will continue with a circus show featuring spinning tops by the Brazilian artist Emerson Noise, who will present his new proposal,Alguem quer me laçar?

At 13:30 hours a solidarity paella will be served, at a price of 10 euros, the profits of which will be donated to the Prodis association. Afterwards there will be a woodturning demonstration, an opportunity to learn about the artisanal manufacturing process of these pieces.

The Spinning Top Olympics, one of the highlights

One of the most anticipated moments will arrive on Saturday at 4 p.m. with the Spinning Top Olympics, open to both amateurs and professionals. Participants will have to demonstrate their technical skills in a series of games and challenges with spinning tops.

Throughout the day there will also be a fair with spinning tops made by different artisans, a varied exhibition, and installations and games so that visitors can experiment with this traditional toy from a creative and acrobatic perspective.

The VIII Mallorcan Spinning Top Gathering is organized by the collective Embaldufats de Mallorca, with the support of the Cap de Fibló association and the Pollença City Council. In case of rain, the activities will be moved to the assembly hall of Port de Pollença.
