The residents of Son Sardina will return to the street to claim Cort's promise with Can Pesquet

PalmaThe residents of Son Sardina will take to the streets again on Sunday, September 6, to demand that the Can Pesquet plot be turned into a public space. The gathering, called for 7 p.m. in front of the land, comes one year after the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, announced that Cort had begun negotiations to acquire the 1,600-square-meter plot with the intention of building a neighborhood center, a library, and a square, as well as studying the possibility of a parking lot.

The organizers believe that, one year after the announcement, Cort has not finalized the acquisition nor started the project. For this reason, they call on the City Council to stop repeating the commitment to make Can Pesquet public and move to action.

"We demand that Cort acquire the plot immediately and start the project to create a square and community center there!", state the promoters of the mobilization, who argue that having this space is a necessity for the neighborhood and a right of the residents.

The gathering will take place after the festivities, with the slogan of demanding that Can Pesquet finally be public. The organizers also warn that the mobilization will not end with this event and encourage residents to "not leave the streets".

The plot has changed owner

The mobilization occurs at a time when the situation of the plot has become complicated. According to the Palma City Council, after Cort initiated negotiations to buy the land with Solvia, responsible for marketing it, the real estate company ended up selling the plot to a third party, despite knowing, according to the Consistory, the municipal intention to acquire it.

Now Cort is negotiating with the new owner to try to reach a purchase agreement. Martínez himself reiterated on Monday that he maintains the commitment to make Can Pesquet public and assured that the City Council is "in the process of reaching an agreement to acquire the plot".

The mayor has warned, however, that if the negotiations do not reach a good outcome, Cort will resort to expropriation.

Meanwhile, the neighbors demand that the municipal commitment be translated into concrete facts and deadlines. Sunday's concentration will be the new show of pressure so that the plot ceases to be private and becomes the public space claimed by the neighborhood for a long time.
