PalmThe Balearic Cultural Association (OCB) has called for a massive singing event The BalangueraThe anthem of Mallorca will be performed on May 29th at 8 pm in all towns and cities across the island. The initiative commemorates the centenary of the musical premiere of Joan Alcover's poem, which composer Amadeu Vives first presented on May 29, 1926, at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona.

The poster announcing the event

The event is part of the Joan Alcover Year celebrations, commemorating the centenary of the poet's death. According to the organization, the goal is for the squares throughout Mallorca to be filled with people singing the island's anthem on the same day and at the same time, in a popular and participatory celebration across the entire territory. The initiative has the support of the Balearic Institute of Studies and the Council of Mallorca, and it is hoped that all 53 municipalities on the island will join, along with local associations and organizations. The OCB has also made a specific appeal to choirs, bands, and other musical groups to participate and help fill the streets with music. The organization is confident of massive public participation so that the singing becomes a collective outcry in defense and reaffirmation of Mallorcan identity and a strengthening of the sense of Mallorcan pride. It is worth remembering that in 1996 the Consell de Mallorca declared The Balanguera as the official anthem of the island.
