The old fire station will become the new Local Police station of Palma
Cort will rent the facilities for 20 years for about 3.5 million euros
PalmaThe Palma City Council announced this Wednesday that the old Firefighters' station in the Son Castelló industrial estate, which is owned by Asima, will become the new Local Police station. The Council will rent the facilities for 20 years, until 2046, for 3.52 million euros including VAT. Asima will be entirely responsible for carrying out the adaptation works, which will cost approximately one million euros, explained the spokesperson for the City Council, Mercedes Celeste, at the press conference following the government board meeting. Currently, the premises were used as a sociocultural space, and have hosted fairs, courses, competitions, exhibitions, professional conferences, and even the filming of the seriesTreu Foc for IB3 Television.
Celeste explained that the property has been selected after analyzing the various alternatives available in the Son Castelló area. According to her, the technical reports conclude that it is the only space that meets the necessary functional conditions for this use, which is why direct award has been opted for.
The councilwoman also explained that "the future police station will allow the force's operational capacity to be increased and the community policing model to be strengthened". Furthermore, it will be added to the set of actions planned to modernize and expand the network of Local Police facilities, including the future Nou Llevant barracks, which will replace the Sant Ferran facilities, the new police station planned in the old Metropolitan cinemas, and the Estacions police station, which is already operational.
The spokesperson explained that the new police station responds to the need to have "more space to respond to the significant growth of the staff planned for the coming years". Throughout 2026, around 170 new officers will join, and during 2027, 50 more are expected to arrive.
The future police station will occupy from the basement floor to the second floor of the old fire station and will have the capacity to house nearly 150 officers. The facilities will have office areas, meeting rooms, changing rooms, an armoury, warehouses, technical and service facilities, and also parking spaces for police vehicles.
The facility adaptation project has been drafted by the City Council and is already finished.
