The Palma encampment organizes a workshop to teach how to claim the extension of rents

PalmaThe Mallorca Housing Camp will organize an advisory day this Thursday to help people whose rental contracts are about to expire to draft and send burofaxes to their landlords to request the extension provided for in the housing decrees.

The goal of the initiative is for tenants to be able to formally record their request before the voting of the decrees in the Congress of Deputies, scheduled for this Friday. According to the organization, sending the requirement in time would allow for "freezing the eviction" and strengthening the tenants' right to remain in the home.

The Acampada considers that this path offers a "legal loophole" because the decrees come into force from the moment they are published in the BOE. For this reason, it argues that during the period in which they are in effect, the protection measures and extensions are applicable.

The organization has criticized the central Government's processing, which it considers marked by "parliamentary precariousness" and for having arrived "at the very last minute." According to its interpretation, this situation reduces the time that families have to take advantage of protection measures.

The initiative, however, will not replace the mobilizations. The Acampada has announced that it will maintain the calls scheduled for Saturday and vindicates "collective organization and direct action" as ways to defend the right to housing.
