"The problems have already begun": alarm over an incident at Tirme after the arrival of waste from Ibiza

PalmaThe platform No to the import of waste has publicly denounced that "the problems have already begun" as a result of the transfer of waste from Ibiza to Mallorca to be incinerated at the Tirme plant. In a statement, the organization, made up of more than 20 entities, has stated that a few days ago an "incident" occurred at the incinerator that would have been caused by waste from Ibiza.

According to information published by various media outlets, a "specific technical incident" occurred. Tirme, for its part, has indicated that the breakdown affected three of the four lines of the plant, as explained by the platform. The organization considers that it "was not so specific" if it affected 75% of the facilities.

The platform also recalled that the CCOO union denounced last week that the Tirme waste deposit is "overflowing" and demanded that the company and the Consell de Mallorca adopt risk prevention measures "before a tragedy occurs".

"What has alarmed us most is the total lack of transparency from Tirme, the Consell de Mallorca and the Government," they criticized from the entity. As they explained, in a meeting the institutions had guaranteed them that they would receive complete and reliable information about any circumstance that could affect the operation's functioning. However, they assure that they learned of the incident through CCOO's complaint.

For the platform, this episode increases concern about an operation that they consider "so complicated, unsustainable and that can affect health". In this regard, they have insisted that the incident "confirms the worst forecasts" they had made about the transfer of waste from Ibiza to Mallorca.

Finally, the organization has called for transparency from the administrations and Tirme and has demanded that citizens be provided with information on the management of this operation.
