The residences of the Balearic Islands will share the clinical history with hospitals and health centers
The platform already works in 21 centers and will be progressively rolled out until it reaches the 43 public centers of the dependency network.
PalmaThe Government and the Consell de Mallorca have launched the implementation of shared electronic health records in residences, both public and private, with the aim that residents' information can be consulted by both healthcare professionals and residential center staff.
The Minister of Health, Manuela García, and the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, presented this Tuesday the project, which allows for real-time sharing of clinical and social information of dependent individuals. As they explained, this tool facilitates all professionals involved in their care having an updated view of the residents' health status and being able to make decisions more coordinately.
With this system, healthcare professionals in residences will be able to access the electronic health records of IB-Salut, while healthcare professionals will also have access to the social information of users. In this way, data such as medical tests, prescribed treatments, necessary care, or admission reports, consultations, and follow-up will be shared.
The platform also allows for the consultation of patient identification, clinical reports, assessment scales, and other indicators related to ulcers, falls, nutritional status, or the need for palliative care. Similarly, it incorporates anthropometric data and vital signs, such as weight, height, heart rate, or oxygen saturation, as well as information on geriatric syndromes.
To make this exchange of information possible, the Ministry of Health has integrated the information systems of residential centers with NEXA, the corporate interoperability platform developed by IB-Salut, which allows for the transmission and incorporation of residents' clinical data between different care settings.
Progressively
The implementation of the system is being done progressively. It is currently operational in 21 residences, including Residència Oms, and provides coverage for 1,393 people. The plan is to extend it soon to the 43 centers of the public dependency care network in the Balearic Islands, which total 3,567 places.
The development of the project, jointly promoted by the Government and the Consell de Mallorca, has involved an investment of 1.57 million euros, financed with funds from the sustainability, efficiency improvement, and equitable access to the National Health System program.
During the presentation, Galmés emphasized that this tool will allow professionals to have a "complete and updated view of each resident, regardless of whether the care is provided from the residence, primary care, or a hospital." He added, "making information available to professionals means directly improving the quality of life and protection of the residents."
