The residents of Pere Garau ask to extend the EMT's night service

PalmaThe citizen platform Flipau amb Pere Garau has requested the EMT of Palma to extend the NitBus service also on weekdays to respond to the needs of workers with night shifts. The entity assures that many residents of neighborhoods such as Pere Garau, Son Gotleu, el Rafal, and el Vivero, especially those working in restaurants, hospitality, and retail, are left without public transport to return home once the service of line 5 ends, around 11:30 PM.

The platform argues that public transport is an essential service and considers that limiting the NitBus to weekends and vigils of holidays does not align with Palma's labor reality. Therefore, it has formally asked the EMT to study the feasibility of extending the night service throughout the week, a measure that, it claims, would improve safety, reduce private vehicle use, and promote more sustainable and equitable mobility.

According to their explanation, extending the NitBus service on weekdays would contribute to:

• Reducing private vehicle use and, therefore, decreasing pollution, noise, and urban congestion.
• Promote social and territorial cohesion and ensure that all neighborhoods have access to dignified mobility.
• Increase road and personal safety, which would avoid walking in unsafe hours and conditions.
• Support essential workers who sustain a fundamental part of the local economy.
