PalmaThe citizen platform Flipau amb Pere Garau has requested the EMT of Palma to extend the NitBus service also on weekdays to respond to the needs of workers with night shifts. The entity assures that many residents of neighborhoods such as Pere Garau, Son Gotleu, es Rafal or es Viver, especially those who work in restoration, hotels or commerce, are left without public transport to return home once the service of line 5 finishes, around 11:30 p.m.

The platform argues that public transport is an essential service and considers that limiting the NitBus to weekends and vigils of holidays does not fit the reality of work in Palma. Therefore, it has formally asked the EMT to study the feasibility of extending the night service throughout the week, a measure that, according to it, would improve safety, reduce the use of private vehicles and favor more sustainable and equitable mobility.

As they explain, extending the NitBus service on weekdays would contribute to:

  • Reducing the use of private vehicles and, therefore, decreasing pollution, noise, and urban congestion.
  • Foster social and territorial cohesion and ensure that all neighborhoods have access to dignified mobility.
  • Increase road and personal safety, avoiding walking trips in unsafe hours and conditions.
  • Provide support to essential workers who sustain a fundamental part of the local economy.
