PalmThe educators of nurseries for 0 to 3 year olds are called to a state-wide strike this Thursday, with the forecast of broad participation in the Balearic Islands, as indicated by the organizing unions. CCOO, UGT, and STEI have urged the entire sector to join the protest and have denounced what they consider to be "inactivity" on the part of employers' associations.

The strike day comes after various growing mobilizations and will culminate with gatherings at 6:00 p.m. in the Plaza de España in Palma, as well as in Ibiza and Ciutadella. The unions explain that the objective is to make the collective's demands visible and move towards effective regulation of the sector. Among the main demands are the immediate negotiation of an autonomous collective agreement, the improvement of salaries — which they assure barely exceed the minimum wage —, the regulation of ratios and the improvement of educational conditions, in addition to the recognition of the 0-3 cycle as part of the educational system.

They also demand a reduction in the structural labor precarity of a sector they define as essential and highly feminized. “The situation is unsustainable. It supports work-life balance and child development, but still has precarious conditions. Without a regional agreement, there will be no real dignity,” they warned in a statement. Regarding minimum services, the presence of the management team has been established to guarantee the opening of the centers, in addition to one childcare educator for every three units.
