CostitxHappy ending for the heritage of Costitx. After almost four months of uncertainty and intense neighborhood and institutional mobilization, the image of the Virgin Mary from the small chapel on Major Street in Costitx has reappeared.

The 'rediscovery' took place this very Sunday in Sencelles. The figure was located right next to the image of Sister Francinaina in the town square, a fact that allowed for its immediate identification, and the alarm was raised to the authorities and the Costitx City Council.

The piece, a valuable sculpture made of Santanyí sandstone catalogued as a heritage asset and dated to the year 1913, was stolen on June 15th. The theft caused great shock among the residents of Costitx, who a few weeks later installed a provisional replica. Furthermore, the City Council had already commissioned a new image for the small chapel.
