PalmaA Civil Guard patrol boat located the lifeless body of a young man this Saturday evening about six nautical miles south of Formentera. The Armed Institute confirmed the finding this Sunday.
The corpse, which appears to be that of an adolescent, was in an advanced state of decomposition. The young man was wearing a life jacket, a fact that leads investigators to believe he was a migrant who died while attempting to reach the Balearic Islands aboard a small boat.
The body was located around 4 p.m. and subsequently transported to the port of Ibiza. There, the forensic doctor was waiting, who will have to initiate the corresponding procedures to determine the circumstances of the death and proceed with the identification of the young man. The autopsy should provide more information about the causes of death, while the Civil Guard's investigations will also have to determine the identity of the young man and confirm, if applicable, the hypothesis that he was a person traveling on an irregular boat bound for the Balearic Islands.
