They report that local police officers in Palma on internships patrol alone
ATAP maintains that trainees continue to lack essential equipment to guarantee their safety
PalmaThe ATAP union (Association of Public Administration Workers) has reported this Thursday serious security deficiencies and labor conditions in the Palma Local Police, with interns patrolling alone and without the necessary police equipment. This is a situation that, in their opinion, puts their integrity at risk and could compromise the legal validity of certain police actions.
ATAP maintains that the interns continue to lack the essential equipment to guarantee their safety and reports that some are sent to patrol alone through the streets of Palma, despite still being in a training period and not having completed the basic training course of the Balearic School of Public Administration (EBAP).
The union considers that these interns should always carry out their training under the direct supervision of permanent officials and warns that using them to compensate for staff shortages distorts the training nature of the internships and could lead to legal consequences regarding certain police actions.
Therefore, it calls for the immediate cessation of this practice and for all interns to patrol accompanied by permanent officers and with adequate protection measures.
Likewise, it criticizes the organization of the service by the Prefecture, stating that authorized and armed officers are deliberately separated to offer a greater sense of police presence, a decision that, according to ATAP, increases the risks to the safety of the police officers.
