A thief throws himself into the sea from a cliff to flee from the Police in Ibiza

PalmaThe National Police have arrested a man in Ibiza accused of allegedly committing three robberies with force and one crime of trespassing, after he attempted to flee from officers by jumping into the sea from a cliff. The events took place on Tuesday, when several neighbors alerted authorities to the presence of a man inside a home. According to witnesses, the suspect had accessed the residence by jumping between the balconies of different floors.

Officers located a man who matched the description provided by the neighbors and ordered him to stop, but he ignored them and began to flee. Upon finding himself cornered, he went down a cliff and jumped into the sea, with the intention of continuing his escape by swimming. The police maintained visual contact with him as he moved away from the coast, reaching approximately 150 meters away. Given the risk to his physical integrity, they requested the collaboration of a boat. One of the officers went so far as to remove part of his uniform to enter the water and try to convince him to return to land, but the man did not listen.

At one point during the escape, the suspect even tried to approach a boat that was anchored, although he desisted upon realizing that there were people on board. Finally, the officers were able to reach him with a rescue boat from the Figueretes beach lifeguard service and arrested him. Once on land, the police verified that the man was subject to a police warrant as a suspect in three robberies with force and one home invasion. According to the investigation, the three robberies had been committed by accessing the buildings via the facades. Once inside the homes, the suspect would look for valuables and allegedly steal jewelry and money.
